What We Do
We are dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. Below are examples of activities listed in our three main areas of projects.
Promoting Patriotism
- Support Wreaths Across America and participation in wreath-laying ceremony
- Observe Veterans Day and participate in Veterans Day Parade
- Participate in Fourth of July parade on float with the Sons of the American Revolution members and Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) members
- Support Rowan Resolves Chapter of the C.A.R.
- Dress in historical period attire and serve at community events
- Attend funerals of veterans
- Support local veterans by hosting birthday parties at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center
- Host and serve coffee and/or meals for multiple veteran’s events in our area
- Participate in local commemorative events, including the anniversary of the Battle of Kings Mountain and the Battle of Guilford Courthouse with Patriot wreath layings and grave markings

- Honor graves of local American Revolutionary War Patriots
- Support the National Society for the Preservation of NSDAR buildings
- Participate in local historic programs, tours, and events

Education
- Commemorate Constitution Week by placing a display at the local library
- Participate in Bells Across America on September 17 to honor the signing of the U. S. Constitution
- Sponsor American History Essay Contests for students in fifth to eighth grades
- Sponsor DAR Good Citizens Essays for high school seniors
- Our chapter hosts an Annual Star Teacher Awards Luncheon
- We read the book, Elizabeth Maxwell Steele, Woman of Courage, by Dicy McCullough, to students in Rowan County classrooms
- Participate in the Dr. Seuss Reading Project
- Support NSDAR Schools
- Have trips to historical locations such as The Price of Freedom Museum, Thyatira Cemetery, Organ Lutheran Churches, and The Kings Mountain National Military Park
